Can & Can’t send Items by Courier - What can & can’t send with Courier?

 

Let’s talk about Dangerous, Hazardous & Prohibited Items that cannot send by express couriers. Express couriers are different from Cargo. So don’t be confused. Please have a look at what can and cannot post with Courier. Similarly, each carrier also has its list of prohibited and restricted items. And it may vary depending on the delivery destination too. So might you have one question right now? Does it mean we cannot send these items as below at all? Don’t panic; yes, you can send, but you can send only from companies with a Dangerous Goods (DG) Certificate. There are different special procedures, so; we are not discussing that. These lists are for general clients.

So, now, let’s talk about what cannot send

 

Typically, express couriers do not accept the following items to transport. And the list will update from time to time. So courier companies may refuse to carry things not on this list. So please check with them before you send it. Do you know why? As a result of your shipment of a Prohibited Item, Courier will not be responsible for damage or loss. A load of prohibited items shall be deemed a material breach of the Terms and Conditions of Carriage. Sometimes, the Courier will contact the sender if the parcel contains a forbidden thing that delays or stops.

 

 

Most common items

 

• Aerosols, perfumes and aftershaves - Including Eau de perfume and eau de toilette
• Batteries - damaged or defective
• Batteries - lose of any type - including but not limited to power banks, USB chargers and standard household batteries. 
• Cash
• Cosmetics (EU only) - Including but not limited to makeup, hair dye and face creams.
• Credit/debit cards - activated and unactivated
• Foodstuffs (EU only)
• Medications (EU only) - Prescription and non-prescription, including supplements
• Nail polish
• Power banks
• Rechargeable wireless earbuds Include but are not limited to Apple Air Pods and Samsung Galaxy Buds.

 

 

Alcohol, cigarettes and narcotics

 

• Alcohol - Sending alcohol within the UK is permitted, but shipments containing alcohol to destinations outside the UK may be local restrictions.
• Cigarettes, cigars and tobacco products
• Electronic cigarettes and pipes, e-hookahs, e-cigars and vape pens - Including any device that, through an aerosolised solution, delivers nicotine, flavour, or any other inhalable substance
• Medicinal cannabis & illegal narcotics

 

 

Electronic devices

 

• More than two mobile phones, laptops and other small electronic items - You can send a maximum of 2 devices per box. The batteries must contain within the devices. Devices should pack to minimise movement to avoid short circuits or unintentional activation. Your total shipment value can be up to £5,000
• Samsung Galaxy Note7 and Samsung Note7 devices

 

 

Hazardous/dangerous items

 

• Dangerous/hazardous goods - Including but not limited to flammable and corrosive substances, dry ice and biological substances.
• Firearms, ammunition and explosives - Including explosive devices, inert explosives and test pieces, air guns, toy guns, Tasers, replica and imitation firearms and all firearm parts and attachments
• Party poppers and Christmas crackers
• Used car parts and engines - Only acceptable if professionally cleaned to remove residues

 

 

Humans, Animals and Plants

 

• Animal trophies, animal parts and furs - Including ivory, shark fins, animal remains and ashes, animal by-products, and derived products not intended for human consumption
• Clinical or biological samples - Including but not limited to bodily fluids and tissue samples.
• Clinical testing kits - New or used, including COVID-19
• Flowers and plants
• Human remains or ashes - In any form
• Live animals - including insects, larvae and pupae
• Plant-based material (EU only)

 

 

Money, valuables and tax stickers

 

• Antiques, works of art and fine art - With an individual value of over £5,000
• Banderols / tax stickers
• Bullion of any precious metal
• Cash and traveller’s cheques - Legal tender – bank notes, currency notes, coins
• Commemorative coins, medals and other precious collectables - With an individual or total shipment value over £1,800
• Jewellery, costume jewellery, watches and objects constructed of precious metal or stones - With a total shipment value of over £4,000
• Loose precious and semi-precious stones - Cut or un-cut, polished or unpolished

 

 

Other

 

• Counterfeit goods - In breach of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR)
• Illegal goods - Such as illicit drugs, including but not limited to narcotics stimulants, depressants or hallucinogens, cannabis or its derivatives, including medicinal cannabis
• Pornography - Printed, film or digital format
